    Bath Flat Bottles

Where recycling, good causes and traditional crafts come together.

What do you do with your old wine or gin bottles?

Most of us look at the pile of empties and think – "I must cut down - next week". Then you put them into the recycling and once a week a nice man comes and takes them away. Hopefully someone will sort them into clear, green, amber an so on, so they can be reused – but what about using them again, in a novel artform, that also helps raise a little cash for good causes?

'Bath Flat Bottles', is a new and innovative range from Lawrence of Bath, where we bring together recycling, good causes and traditional crafts. Our aim is to raise some much needed cash for charity while at the same time adding a little something for yourself or a friend.

While living (and studying stained glass) in New York, I visited one of the many street markets, around Greenwich Village, where the NYPD close off a section of 5th, 6th or 7th Avenues and traders come into the city and set up stalls to sell mainly craft and independently made gift items. On one visit I saw some melted wine bottles and thought, how great they would be if the labels could be re-attached and waterproofed.

We have developed a way of doing just that. Adding a twist to a craft favourite has resulted in this novel idea; recycled flat bottles with wine labels reattached (yet usable as cheese boards, platters and more  – see below) and a donation to charity for each bottle you buy. This not only makes the bottles a beautiful addition to the home, but also useful and good for the environment. It's a 'win win' product:

  • You are being green by recycling.
  • You are giving to charity.
  • You get a great gift for someone or a treat for yourself.

Not only do they look good but they are useful too:

Uses include: cheese boards, lemon slicer, cake or sandwich plates, spoon rests, general platter and ornament.
Some might say a piece of art too!

Other Cool Bottles

In addition to the wine bottles above, we also have a selection of other bottles (subject to stock).
Ever wondered what you favorite gin bottle would look like melted down?

The Labels

The actual method used to reattach and water resisting the labels is our secret, but we have developed a method of sealing the labels to the underside of the glass, which means you can use the bottles in a variety of ways (see above).

The top remains the original glass only, the protected label is now on the underside of the bottle, encased and wet proofed, effectively melted into the glass. If you are using the bottle for cheese or as a plate you can just wipe clean with a regular kitchen spray without worrying about damaging the label. However these are NOT Dishwasher safe and should not be left to soak, they are intended for light use.

Once used it also becomes a nice ornament - perfect for that wine buff (or wino) and we have plenty of different labels for you to collect (we will be launching new labels as the campaign grows, or you can send your own!).

Personalised Bottles

We can also personalise your bottle(s) to make a memorable gift to commemorate your wedding or special event. Or maybe you have a wine bar or pub and want your own logo or slogan, even your wine list or menu.  These also make great items for company presentations and awards.

What about wedding or party invites (for which we would normally use a beer bottle)? A special message to that wine or beer buff, ("Happy 50th Dad")? Or you could send us a bottle that holds special memories such a your wedding or anniversary and and we can turn it into a unique memento.

Whatever you have in mind, you get a great gift and a deserving cause receives a much needed donation.
